Efficacy of tauroursodeoxycholic acid combined with polyene phosphatidylcholine in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Lu F, Wang SM, et al. Chinese Hepatology. 2022:27(3).
Objective
•To evaluate the efficacy and safety of tauroursodeoxycholic acid combined with polyene phosphatidylcholine in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Methods

•A total of 186 patients with NAFLD were enrolled and divided into two groups. Patients in group A were treated with oral tauroursodeoxycholic acid and polyene phosphatidylcholine, and patients in group B were treated with oral glutathione and polyene phosphatidylcholine for 24 weeks. Liver function, blood lipid, and CAP value were compared between the two groups.

Figures & Tables
Results

•After 12 weeks of treatment, the ALT, AST, GGT, ALP and CAP values in group A were lower than those in group B (P < 0.05), and there was no significant difference in TC and TG values between the two groups.
•After 24 weeks of treatment, the values of ALT, AST, GGT, ALP, TC, TG and CAP in group A were lower than those in group B (P < 0.05). During the treatment, 4 patients in group A had mild stomach pain and nausea at the beginning of treatment, and 3 patients in group B had loose stools and mild anorexia.

Conclusion
•Tauroursodeoxycholic acid combined with polyene phosphatidylcholine can effectively improve the liver function of NAFLD patients, reduce blood lipids and CAP value, and has good safety.
